At the beginning of the Lock Down Salobreña Town Council closed off the beach road to traffic with the idea of giving pedestrians more space. This was at a time when joggers and strollers were strictly controlled.
However, whilst for anybody on foot this seemed a great idea now with the opening of chiringuitos, this lack of access for vehicles is detrimental for business, both because delivery vans can’t reach them and neither can customers with mobility problems.
So, starting from Monday, access will be permitted for vehicles along one of the lanes, as well as the parking on that side. The lane nearest to the paseo itself will remain for pedestrian use only.
The two lanes will be marked off with blue & white bollards, like the ones already in use at the Peñón end, as can be seen in the above photo.
Editorial comment: the idea to do this was put forward by the PP opposition party, although no mention of this was made in the Town Council press release.
