Mare Abandoned in Salobreña

SAL Abandoned MareA Salobreña horse owner is being investigated by the Guardia Civil after it was found that he allegedly abandoned a mare to its fate.

The 29-year-old man reportedly left the horse without food or water in the area of the La Guardia. Its situation was brought to the attention of the authorities on the 18th of this month by a woman who lives nearby .

According to the woman, the animal had been tethered on a piece of land without food or water for around a month and consequently, it was in a bad state of health. If it hadn’t been for this person and other neighbours bringing food and water to the animal it would have surely died.

The Seprona department from the Guardia Civil post in Motril was put in charge of the case and began immediate investigation. They found out that the young man had acquired the horse hardly a month ago. They then located the owner and questioned him. He offered in his defence that his car had broken down and was therefore unable to take it food and water.

The horse owner had been charged with abandoning an animal in his care.
