CA Want Rubble Check

ALM The Demolished MarketThe main opposition party in Almuñécar, the CA, headed by J.C. Benavides, has requested that the Town Hall carries out an analysis of the market-building rubble.

According to Juan Carlos Benavides, in conformity with EU regulations, samples of the rubble should be analysed in an official and independent laboratory, including samples from the concrete beams and the support columns.

“The object of such an analysis and report is to establish what was the real state of the structure of the building so that, should it be the case, those who declared it to be in a ruinous state be held responsible,” said Sr. Benavides, adding, “these tests should be carried out urgently before the rubble disappears.”

He went on to say, “as we have seen, specialised heavy machinery was required to carry out the demolition, making it plainly obvious that the Mayor’s claims that “concrete from supports crumbled in your hands,” were untrue.

He concluded by demanding an independent analysis of all the material, regardless of its condition and also that those who neglected the maintenance of the building for nine years be held responsible.

Editorial comment: many harbour the suspicion that the Mayor used the Lock Down to push through a demolition that would have incited street protests under normal condition. However, Mr Benavides is not in a position to criticise its maintenance as the building was erected during his watch in such a shabby manner so much so that within 20 years it was falling apart.
