Parking, Fines & Fallout

MOT Playa Poniente AerialWith summer just begun the parking crisis down on Playa Poniente/Granada is heating up with exchanges between Costas and the Town Hall.

At a meeting the provincial representative of Costas told the Mayor that “fines have to be given out and that’s all there is to it.” The Mayor, in turn, expressed her surprise that given that there is nowhere else to park, why Costas can’t give some sort of leeway.

Back at the drawing board, the Town Hall is putting forward both short-term and long-term solutions. The short-term idea is basically to get us through the summer and consists in opening up empty building plots as provisional, parking areas.

This summer’s provisional parking will be on the plot in front of Hoyo 19, another one next to Katena and one in front of El Espeto and the campsite. The Town hall is still reaching a deal with the owners of these plots, mind you.

The long-term idea will be to modify the Paseo Poniente and to build a new paseo for Playa Granada, joining it up with Salobreña, which will require a great deal of collaboration with the coastal authorities; i.e.,  Demarcación de Costas.
