The last of the May 2009, looking Back articles concerns the fate of the palm trees along the Avenida de Salobreña in Motril, uprooted when they modernised this thoroughfare.
The old layout, with its parking areas all along its length, was to go and what we see today is the result: a bus lane, a cycle lane and zero parking.
It was a controversial project, made even more so when it became known that the company that had been chosen to carry out the work was allegedly involved in one of the country’s biggest corruption scandals, Gurtel, which is still going through the courts even today. But that’s another story!
