The political party MÁS Almuñécar has been carrying out polls amongst the residents to find out how they feel about a dog beach, amongst other things.

Party Secretary, Javier García, said that this idea is popular amongst residents and visitors (tourists) alike and has been a long-standing petition over the years.

Sr. García points out that Playas para Perros already exist along the Andalusia coastline; one example is Motril, for example.

He also said that although La Herradura-Almunecar have around 30 beaches between them, you cannot just designate any beach for this end because the chosen beach has to meet certain conditions.

Editorial comment: These idea that are coming up for the 2019 Municipal Election have been around for a while. For example, it was IU that originally proposed that the next beach on from La China beyond San Cristóbal be a dog beach around six years ago. And as for the underwater park, it was originally the idea of Benavides. This year different formations come up with these ideas but the truth is that we are no closer to seeing either of them.
