IU Wary over Underwater Park

ALM Underwater Theme ParkThe Almuñécar opposition party, IU, is not impressed with the idea about sinking statues etc off Almuñécar beaches, because of the costs it entails.

Party leader, Fermín Tejero, considers that the ruling party’s idea to create an underwater park as a diving attraction is a needless expense as, he says, the seabed is already a diver’s paradise without depleting the municipal coffers.

He is asking the Councillor Juan José Ruiz Joya to come up with some figures (and not the sort that will adorn the seabed) to show how much the project would cost. Until this is publicly known, nobody can really make a judgement on its feasibility.

This request for a detailed project was already requested by the Junta when the PP presented the idea.

He would also like to know how these objects will affect the marine ecosystem, but above all he considers that a serious study on the idea should be made, rather than just announcing an idea off the top of their heads when we are in the midst of elections campaign where sound-bytes count.

In the meantime he suggests that the Town Hall starts thinking about improving existing tourist sites such as the two castles (Almuñécar’s and La Herradura’s one) or the Museo de los Siete Palacios.
