The growing opposition to immigrant/refugee holding centres in Motril and Granada in general has come out against the military installation in the port.

Two such movements, CIES No Motril and CIES no Granada had already complained about the original temporary holding centre in the port, as well as the project to turn the old, Spanish Air Force installations in Motril into one, too.

These two movements consider that the military tent camp in the port is merely an extention of “jails in Motril.” In other words, it’s not so much about people flooding into the country but how they are treated, especially women and children.

However, amongst the 20 smaller groups that make up these two movements, there are those that simply oppose immigration – two opposing views united against the same temporary solution.
