A middle-aged man had to be rescued after being found clinging to a buoy in the middle of the night off a Torre del Mar beach.
The rescue took place at 02.30h on a Sunday at the end of last month after people strolling on the beachfront promenade had heard cries for assistance coming from out to sea.
The Policía Nacional patrol commandeered a hidropedal (pedalo) and peddled out to the 50-year-old man, who was some 200 metres out. It wasn’t easy finding him as there was a little sea fog and there wasn’t much moonlight either.
The police report doesn’t say how long the victim had been clinging to the buoy or how he had ended up there, unfortunately.
