Salobreña was infested with cyclists last weekend with 170 of the blighters taking part in the Campeonato Ibérico de Ciclismo Máster.
A Portuguese competitor, Alexandre Guilhoto, won the Master 30A, whilst Carlos Gomes won the Master 30B category.
The race, starting and ending in Salobreña, covered 78 kilometres, pedalling through coastal towns as well as the Valle de Lecrín.
Actually, besides the various categories, there were different start times with the first one starting at 09.00h with the departure of the Master 30 (the numbers refer to ages) followed by the Masters 40, 50 and 60 leaving off at 12.00h, with both leaving from the Avenida del Mediterráneo de Salobreña near the Casa de la Cultura.
The route of both races took the competitors through Vélez de Benaudalla, Ízbor, Béznar, Melegís, Talará, Restabal, Pinos del Valle and Guájar Faragüit before returning to Salobreña, having thoroughly annoyed motorists along the way.
Editorial note: Personally, I find cycling the most annoying sport ever, but then again I do have a Gold Medal in being an annoying grumpy git, myself…
