A man had to be rescued last Saturday after suffering a fall in the Sierra Nevada in the area known as Corral del Veleta (Canuto).
The 42-year-old man fell some 90 metres, suffering serious injuries to both legs, according to the Andalusia emergency-call service, 112, who received the alert at 12.00h.
The Servicio de Rescate e Intervención en Montaña (Sereim) was called out to rescue the climber.
Despite a rescue helicopter being deployed, it was not possible to reach him owing to adverse weather conditions, so the mountain rescue team had to bring him out via a vertical mountain face.
The victim was first attended to at the Clínica de Pradollano before being transferred via a medical evacuation helicopter to the Campus de la Salud in Granada.
