The beginning of the month saw a cleaning-up operation on the emblematic Peñon de Santo, in Almuñécar, or if you prefer, the rock with a cross on it…
The municipal cleaning company, FCC, counted on the volunteer work of a local company specialised in cleaning areas of difficult access, called, Almuñécar Vertical.
Obviously, the sight of people in white helmets bouncing around the sides of the rock suspended on ropes attracted the interest of many locals and visitors alike.
The Councillor for the Environment, Luis Aragón, pointed out, “It’s a pity that we have to carry out this kind of cleaning operation because litter doesn’t spontaneously appear out of the thin air up here; it’s the result of the antisocial behaviour of those that drop litter, despite the presence of litter bins.”
