The Guardia Civil have arrested 14 people for fraud involving meat products; selling frozen meat as beef when, in fact, it only contains 25% beef.
The company distributes all over Spain and, according to the police, have been carrying out this kind of fraud since 2002.
The frozen meat products were hamburgers and meatballs, which made it difficult to detect unless it was tested in a laboratory.
The meat-processing plant, which is in the province of Burgos in the north of Spain, used pork, fats, soya and vegetable fats to bulk out the ‘beef’ burgers and other frozen meats.
Just how far these products were distributed is indicated by the fact that the factory supplied the ‘white brand’ of a well known national supermarket chain.
