The Almuñécar Policía Local managed to thwart a drugs landing on La Herradura beach in the early hours of Monday the 30th.

The drug runners were forced to throw their packages overboard and flee around the Cerro Gordo headland towards Nerja.

The actual time of the interception was 04.00h when a municipal-police patrol car heard a loud engine noise approaching the beach. However, having spotted the police – or had been tipped off – the craft turned about and sped off.

The municipal police immediately alerted the Guardia Civil, requesting that they took up the chase and prevent a landing on Maro beach.

Several hours later the craft that had been carrying the drugs was found abandoned on Playa Burriana in Nerja.

There have been no arrests to date.
