Salobreña Food Bank Break-In

sal-food-bank-burglary-onlThe Salobreña Food Bank, which is situated in a municipal warehouse, has been targeted yet again by burglars – the last time was in 2014.

The burglary, which took place during the night of Wednesday the 7th, not only saw the loss of much needed foodstuffs, but also resulted in extensive damage.

The break-in was discovered by the food bank’s storeman when he arrived at work in the morning, finding the front door wrecked and the roof damaged… and not a lot of food left.

The worker foolishly phoned the municipal police, who simply phoned the Guardia Civil. To be fair, incidents involving Civil Law are handled by the Boys in Blue, whereas those involving Criminal Law are handled by the Green Meanies.

The Mayor, Mª Eugenia Rufino, said that she is waiting for the results of the police investigations etc. In the meantime, she would be giving orders to tighten security on the premises. Repairs will be carried out as soon as possible, she said.

The burglars first forced the warehouse main door before smashing the locks on the cold storage units. The roof was damaged because they decided to move about using the ceiling panels.

They not only made off with the foodstuffs belonging to the food bank itself, such as cooking oil, milk, chocolate powder for drinks, etc, but they also grabbed food belonging to the Town Hall, via the Junta for families within the municipality.

All told, 800 kilos of foodstuffs belonging to the Town Hall and 700 kilos belonging to the Food Bank was taken.

These villains obviously haven’t read the scripts for Robin Hood…
