The Maritime branch of the Guardia Civil rescued a kitesurfer after he lost his kite 500 metres off the shore with a strong westerly wind blowing.
The man got into trouble at 18.00h on the 3rd – half an hour before dusk – so the Guardia Civil sent out several of its craft and vessels to look for him.
Despite the lack of daylight, they were able to locate him at 19.00h 250 metres off Playa Granada, having drifted about a kilometre from the point where he lost his kite.
Editorial comment: he must have lost his mind as well as his kite, being out in that wind (force 7) half an hour before nightfall.
