Juan Carlos Benavides, the person who has occupied the Mayor’s seat in Almuñécar more than any other, announced that he is going back to being a doctor.

He said that although he will be going back to his old profession, he will dedicate areas of his free time to exercising the role of opposition leader. In other words, he’s going, but leaving the door open.

He had scathing words for the left-wing parties of Almuñécar that have allied themselves to the conservatives, purely, he considers, to keep him out of office.

He added that he imagines that other parties have been in contact with each other in order to negotiate pacts, but that he had not received calls from any of them.

Editorial comment: It is impossible to imagine Almuñécar without Juan Carlos Benavides in the political day-to-day oife of this town after all these years, but times are changing, for him, for all of us.
