The XVI edición del Vino Nuevo, organized by Benny’s party each year, went down well, as did the wine in the hamlet of Los Martínez!

Now this is a very country event, held up in the Almuñécar hills where farmers croon over their latest vintage of local brew – plenty of wellies and the Spanish equivalent of “Oo ar!”

The competition was divided into two categories: local wines or vinos del terreno with 15 local competitors, and elaborated wines, with six entrants.

The top prize in category went to the last man standing… Nah, just joking! It went to Francisco Rodríguez Fernández, who no doubt is still sleeping off his victory! Antonio Sánchez González won the other category and no doubt celebrated hazily as well.

Apart from showing off local brews, eating things that would scare your doctor to death and wiping out everybody else’s wine stock, the event also serves as a get-together for local community figures belonging to all the far-flung hamlets in the municipality.
