Now You See It; Now You Don’t

Almuñécar lawyer tastetIn March 2011 Almuñécar’s then Mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides erected a plaque in honour of a lawyer – suddenly, it’s gone!

The now deceased Antonio Tastet Díaz not only had a monolith with an inset plaque right outside the main entrance to the town-hall building, but he also has a street named in his honour, in recognition of almost four decades of legal service that he provided for the municipal authorities.

Ten months after his death, the monolith and attached plaque disappear to be replaced by newly laid pavement tiles or flag stones, and Benavides’s party is upset, or mightily miffed, if you prefer.

We still don’t know why the present PP Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, decided that it had to go, but gone it has. Hopefully, there will be a town-hall press release giving their reasons.
