It couldn’t have happened at a worse time, with summer upon them; Restaurante La Farola in Morche has been gutted by fire.

Fortunately, the restaurant owner pointed out, they have insurance coverage, if not, the disaster would have been double, but even so they can kiss goodbye to summer 2014.

The fire in this restaurant on the seafront (Avenida de España) was spotted around 03.00h on the 4th of July. Firemen from the Nerja fire service rushed to the scene with the result that the fire was out within two hours.

However, as a precaution, residents (eight people) of two dwellings above the restaurant were evacuated whilst the blaze was being tackled.

Guardia Civil fire specialists think that the fire was probably caused by a short circuit in the aircon system located in the ceiling, as that’s where the fire started, working its way down the walls.

The restaurant first opened its doors in 1994; in other words, this year is their 20th anniversary…
