The Beach That Is Going To The Dogs

MOT El CableWhen we say “going to the dogs,” we mean, “going to be used by dogs,” so don’t panic!

Yes, Motril has beaten Salobreña and Almuñécar to the post by being the first coastal town on the Costa Tropical to have designated a beach for dog owners and their canine companions.

It won’t be the whole beach, but part of one and the beach chosen for this ‘honour’ is Playa Poniente. That part of the beach is known as the Cable, right next to the port walls.

The move came about after being inundated by letters, phone calls and emails from tourists and residents alike, asking if there was an area designated for the use of dogs.

So, Ladies and Gentlemen, if you were to wander down to El Cable, next to the port, you will see them capering around, barking, with their tongues lolling out… and that’s just the dog owners!

One last point; just because this area is for dogs does not mean that they can squat with impunity – you still have to get your doggy poo bag out and pick up the droppings.
