At 07.20h this morning a 43-year-old man reportedly perished from smoke inhalation in his flat on the first floor of Edificio Miami, Almuñécar. The victim lived alone.

The fire service reported that the victim, Jesús M.C., was found on his sofa in a flat full of smoke but with fire damage restricted to the sitting room where the victim was found.

The first on the scene were the Policia Local, alerted by a neighbour who had phoned, alarmed by smoke coming from the flat. The fire service were immediately summoned, who extinguished the fire in under 30 minutes.

The victim was the uncle of a Town Hall councillor.
