Sewage Treatment Plant for Nerja

NRJ sewage works OnLThe Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has announced that work on the long-awaited sewage-treatment plant is about to commence. He added that a few doubting Thomases hadn’t believed that the 2014 national budget would include Nerja’s promised sewage works.

He admitted that locals would only believe it when they saw the diggers moving in, nevertheless, administratively speaking, he said, the work had already commenced.

“If things go according to plan, within 24 months work should be concluded and six months after that the sewage treatment plant would be in full working order,” he promised.

Mayor Armijo said that the plant would take the form that the Town Hall had always wanted; i.e., completely covered so as to avoid unwanted smells.

For those of you who are inspired by these kind of things, the Mayor promised that the infrastructure would have “an important output,” providing a “service” for 100,000 inhabitants – and this is where it gets gooey – with a flow of some 25,000 cubic metres per day.

The processed water will be recycled for crop irrigation.
