A 78-year-old man allegedly brained his 93-year-old roommate with his walking stick – they didn’t get on, it seems. The incident occurred on the 15th in a private home for the elderly in Buenaventura, Toledo.
They had known each other for many years as they were both born in Navamorcuende, also in the province of Toledo.
It has become apparent that there had been a smoldering hatred between them for a long, long time, so perhaps it wasn’t a splendid idea putting them in the same room in the said home. The nursing staff, unaware of the situation, had thought it was a good idea as they were from the same town.
One of the male nurses on duty was surprised to hear blows and shouts coming from the elderly gentlemen’s room, so he went to investigate. He opened the door the find the younger of the two, hammering the elder of the two with his walking stick as he lay in his bed.
The nurse dragged the enraged man – still clutching his lethal walking stick – out of the room, but there wasn’t a lot that could be done for the dented gent.
The manager of the home, Jardines de Gredos, says that the alleged culprit is a quiet man, affectionate and liked by all and he had never caused any problems. He also explained that he had been diagnosed with mild Alzheimer’s Disease.

Yet this was not the first fatal scuffle between to elderly men in that town; in April 2009, 86-year-old Eugenio hacked his elder brother, Cresencio, to death with an axe, over a land dispute. Despite his advanced age, he was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment.
