A law court in Málaga has sentenced a Dutchman to 13 years’ imprisonment for kidnapping another man for a month in Frigiliana.
The guilty man threatened to kill his victim, whom he kidnapped in Marbella, if he tried to escape – he possessed a pistol with its identification number erased. The incident, which occurred in 2011, also involved other unidentified participants.
During the time that the man was held against his will in a house, his captor permitted him to go outside on one occasion, even using him as an interpreter to ask for things from his neighbour. During this occasion the victim managed to pass a note to a neighbour, asking him to contact the police, which he did.
When the Guardia Civil came around, accompanied by a municipal policeman, the kidnapper threatened them with his pistol, but when the police told him drop the gun, he did.
The man was taken into custody and charged with illegal detention, being in possession of an illegal firearm and threatening police officers.
Finally, the victim refused to claim for damages.
