Now That The Summer’s Over

…The La Herradura maintenance crews are out, continuing with the task of renovating the pavement along the Paseo de Andrés Segovia. Work recommenced in front of the Hombre del Mar monument.

The Obras y Mantenimiento are replacing the paving and the curbstones, as well as inserting gentle ramps for people with mobility problems. Two palms have also been dragged off, screaming and kicking, to be replanted elsewhere

The last time that this kind of work was carried out was 40 years ago, according to the village’s First Councillor, Juan José Ruiz Joya. He pointed out that in some places the curb as such had ceased to exist, either through deterioration or because the road surfaces has had so many layers of tarmac added over the years that it has reached the height of the top of the existing curbstones.

The main emphasis of this renovation work is in front of Edificio Las Flores, because that is where some of the events to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the shipwrecking of the Armada Española will take place.
