Warning on Parking in La Herradura

Gazette readers, residents in La Herradura have informed us that they have been receiving parking fines for parking on the beach, going back as far as February. Apparently, underneath the sand and dirt there is a concrete parking area, wide enough to park in line along the side of the road at the western end of the bay, but just about everybody parks side-by-side, naturally, as it gives more parking.

The fining isn’t being carried out by the Policía Local, however, but the regional coastal authorities (Costas), and the method used is to simply take a block photograph of a line of cars and start writing out the fines.

The Seaside Gazette has asked the local authorities; i.e., the First Councillor for La Herradura, to explain what is happening and his response was that he knew nothing about it but would be contacting the coastal authorities directly. Unfortunately, the response will come too late for the July printed issue of the Seaside Gazette, so to be on the safe side do not park, side-by-side at the western end of the bay – do it in line, nose to boot. Of course, this will exasperate summer parking…

On a positive note, however, it appears that the huge building plot for the Hotel Forte (Between the Río Jate bridge and the lane leading up to the sports pavillion) which has the local nickname of ‘el pantanto’ (the marsh), will be turned into provisional summer parking.

  1. Hello,

Reading the gazette yesterday there was a slight wry amusenment about the article on page 57. Not so smiling now that I have received a “to be signed for” denuncia from Motril. This morning I was told by Knight’s in Nerja that the same thing is happening down there. Presumably the whole coast is being targeted.

Not a fluent Spanish speaker, but I cannot see any evidence as to location, date or time of the alleged infraction.  Having lived in La Herradura for more than 10 years I cannot recall ever having seen any “sign” of the possible wrong parking. How can it be possible to transgress a law that nobody knows about, let alone one that is not “signed”. I know that in Spain many things are “normal”, but surely this is “money grabbing” by the state and which surely cannot be legally enforced.

Any chance of more information and or suggested course of action? To add insult to injury the gang in Motril haven’t given any bank details for receipt of this “smash and grab”.

    Disgruntled of La Herradura,
