Cake Intake Mistake

Seven youngsters ended up in hospital after eating a cannabis-laced cake. The girl who cooked it, who also needed medical attention, was not held in custody but released pending trial, although the judge decided soon after to drop the charges.

All told, 20 youngsters, aged between 18 and 21, assembled on the beach next to the peñon to celebrate a birthday party; there was plenty of drink, snakes, and of course, a birthday cake! This was around 18.00, but by 19.15, many of them started to suffer chest pains, blurred vision and began vomiting.

By 20.00h four had been carted off in ambulances to Motril’s Santa Ana and another three were taken there by private transport; i.e., by friends or family.

The cake-baker had knocked up a standard chocolate cake but decided that a spot of hashish or marihuana would top it off nicely, so in it went. She had obtained the surprising recipe on the Internet, by the way.

Well, as stated above, the cake was scoffed together with good quantities of alcohol and the party began to swing – the group had all come down from Granada to hold the party here – everything was just right… for a while.

In the hospital, with so many teenagers turning up with the same symptoms, the Guardia Civil were called in, as the cause was obviously the intake of drugs. The hospital had run blood tests and found trahidocannabinol (THC) in impressive quantities.

Anyway, Cookie, the Cannabis Cake Baker, was told by the Guardia Civil to report to the Motril court and appear before the judge for a pre-trial hearing, which she did, just as soon as she had recovered the next day. The judge just shrugged, I guess, raised his eyebrows in an admonishing manner and told her to bugger off and don’t do it again.
