Unfulfilled Pledges

Here we are, a mere three months from the next local elections and one of the winning party’s election pledges stands unfulfilled, which is hardly surprising seeing as things have gone pretty egg shaped since May 2007. The said electoral promise is the Motril tram system, joining the town to its port, with a branch leading off for Torrenueva.

To be fair, the PP did point out that it would take two legislatures to complete the project, but nobody – not even themselves – imagined that the first one would pass by without mentioning the word ‘tram.’ The Mayor, Carlos Rojas, says in their defence that the plan depends on the Plan Subregional, which is outside his municipal influence.

The opposition party, the PSOE, isn’t feeling generous, however, and has pointed out that the governing party has only carried out 15% of its 900 electoral proposals. The PP doesn’t agree, claiming that they have carried out 90% – reality is closer to what the opposition claim, however.
