Ron Montero Saves Firework Display

‘Here he rums to save the day!’ ‘scuse the pun folks, but it was hard to resist, especially as the brewers of our favourite coastal tipple, Ron Montero, have come to the rescue to save the town’s much-admired fireworks display this year.
It all came about after marketing director for the rum company, Andrea Martín, read in the paper that the Council had cancelled this year’s show due to a lack of funds and decided that something needed to be done. “The fireworks are really important to Motril and so we just had to do something.” So with that in mind, Ms Martin set about persuading other local businesses to join the cause and donate funds to the pyrotechnic kitty. Between them they collected over 14,000 euros and with the Council putting in an extra 12,000, it should be enough to make sure that this year’s summer festivities go out with a bang! Amongst those who donated were the water company Aguas y Servicios, the bars and restaurants of Playa Motril and Ibercaja.
Interestingly enough the summer fiestas usually set the Council back a modest 571,000 euros. This year though, upon deciding that the sum was perhaps a tad excessive, the Council managed to cut it down to 260,000, less than half the original amount. Mayor, Carlos Rojas, said he was pleased with the result.
