Rubbish Strike Called Off

Some of you may remember, with sheer horror, the catastrophic mess that littered the streets of Almuñécar last year as the rubbish collecting company went on strike in the hottest, busiest month of the year. Well, now the focus has turned on Motril and public cleaning company, Limdeco, has threatened similar action if the council refuses to meet their demands when the company is privatised later this year.
Limdeco are saying that, should the Council go ahead with the privatisation, they must guarantee the safety of all of its 270 employees. If not, striking will start on the 10th of August smack bang in the middle of the fiestas, and the heat.
And they’re really not joking, at the end of last month they started on a campaign to inform the public of their intended actions and give their reasons as to why it was absolutely necessary, claiming that the strike is an absolute last resort and the only way to defend their rights. Let’s just hope this problem gets solved quickly before we’re all swimming in a sea of putrid, rotting rubbish, arghh!
Stop Press:On the 5th of August, Limdeco announced that they had called off the strike, thanks to assurances from the Town Hall that they would not privatize the service.
