Business Owners Protest

Around 100 business owners and residents of Avenida de Salobreña gathered at the town hall in protest at the road works last month. The angry mob called for immediate action after nothing had been done to improve the situation since their meeting with the councillor ten days before.

In said meeting, which lasted for over an hour and a half, individuals managed to lay down the problems they were suffering at the hands of the disruptive works and the group made various demands on what action must be taken. However, as nothing was done towards meeting their demands the crowd felt propelled to turn out in protest once again.

Residents are angry at the complete removal of parking spaces and business owners are complaining about the lack of loading areas (and that’s not to mention the ongoing water and electricity problems).

The works aren’t expected to finish until 2010 and in the meantime, and speaking on behalf of those responsible for the works, Garcia Fuentes has promised to try and find solutions to the problems. He aims to tackle the rudimentary issues of lack of electricity and water supplies first and promises, at the very least, to make sure the potholes are clearly signposted.

Solutions to the parking and loading bay issues are undetermined. They do however hope to keep communication flowing with the speakers of the angry mob until work is done. Oh and they have spoken with the police unit responsible for the neighbourhood to try and keep a better eye on the road to prevent the street lamps being nicked again.
