Three Roundabouts & A Scuffle

It was nine in the evening in Salobreña when a Guardia Civil check-point spotted a driver going around a roundabout in the wrong direction. The junction in question is the just across the river behind the beach road.

A Priority?

The Almuñécar branch of the socialist opposition party, the PSOE, has called attention to the ‘dangerous entrance’ from the N-340 to Las Palomas, La Herradura, which is just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

Not Just A Roundabout…

Motril has finished sprucing up its biggest traffic roundabout, which is the one under the N-340, where the port road runs. The Mayor (still) Carlos Rojas never lost the opportunity to have one more photograph of himself taken, this time standing with a suitably triumphant grin over the huge town-shield design, flower bed.

Not Very Gentlemanly

A male driver threatened a female driver with a pistol over a traffic-related argument. The police, alerted by another driver, chased after and trapped the man.

New Roundabout Demand

With the ever-growing numbers of visitors to the very popular Cantarrijan beach, just west of La Herradura, calls for a roundabout to be built on the N-340 are also growing. In fact, several plenary meetings of the municipal council have culminated in a request to the Demarcacion de Carretera (road authorities) for such a junction, as well as one at the entrance to the Urbanizacion de Las Palomas, just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

Roundabout Near Completition

The work on the Avda. Juan Carlos roundabout proceeds with the centre island already sporting the cobblestone inner track. Whether there are more congested places more worthy of a roundabout, that is another question, which we will look at later on in the article. However, one controversial point is that the roundabout has ‘eaten’ parking space in front of the bank, as it has done elsewhere around its perimeter.

Roundabout for Town Centre

You will have noticed that something is going on along the main drag (Avda. Juan Carlos) between the bus station and the beach! Yes, the crossroads where the P-4 road from Mercandona cuts across it is being changed into a roundabout!

Not A Priority?

This time about the new roundabout on the N-340, where the Los Pinos road joins it. Now, nobody would claim that it was a waste of money, but surely there are much more needy trouble spots in the N-340, where it passes through the municipality.

Rambla Roundabout

Talking of road related stories… the work continues at the top of Rambla del Espinar, where there have now covered the top of the Rambla with concrete and have even started laying the kerbing stones, which look like they will mark the entrance to the roundabout.
