With the ever-growing numbers of visitors to the very popular Cantarrijan beach, just west of La Herradura, calls for a roundabout to be built on the N-340 are also growing. In fact, several plenary meetings of the municipal council have culminated in a request to the Demarcacion de Carretera (road authorities) for such a junction, as well as one at the entrance to the Urbanizacion de Las Palomas, just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

Yet there has been no response, so the new municipal council has written the Head of the said department, Salvador Fernandez Quesada, no doubt with the hope that with the exit of Juan Carlos Benavides from the mayoralty, Almunecar & La Herradura might receive a more favorable response… any response, in fact.

The Councillor for Seguridad Ciudidana, Juan José Riuz Joya, pointed out in the letter that with the opening of the A-7 all the way to La Herradura and beyond the old N-340 carries hardly any through traffic, remaining as a scenic route for local La Herradura traffic, thus work on the road would not cause much disruption.
