New Roundabout Demand

With the ever-growing numbers of visitors to the very popular Cantarrijan beach, just west of La Herradura, calls for a roundabout to be built on the N-340 are also growing. In fact, several plenary meetings of the municipal council have culminated in a request to the Demarcacion de Carretera (road authorities) for such a junction, as well as one at the entrance to the Urbanizacion de Las Palomas, just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

N-340 Road Accident

There was a road accident on the N-340 in front of Salobrena when a car and a motorbike collided. Anything involving a motorbike and another vehicle normally ends in horrific injuries to the bike rider, although in this case, there were no fatalities to lament. Landslide Blocks Tunnel

A landslide near the mouth of the Punta de la Mona tunnel, on the La Herradura side, caused the main road to be closed to traffic whilst it was cleared. It’s not the first time that there has been a rock-fall there; in fact, retention netting etc has only recently been erected at this entrance.

Road Improvements, N-340

Work on the roadside of the N-340 on either side of the Punta de la Mona tunnel is continuing. Drainage is being improved by turning the earth culverts into a concrete ones.

Three More Summers II

As part of the austerity measures, the Government announced that it would cut back 6,400 million euros on public spending. Even before this announcement, the long-awaited completion date for the A-7 coastal highway had been set back to 2011.

Not A Priority?

This time about the new roundabout on the N-340, where the Los Pinos road joins it. Now, nobody would claim that it was a waste of money, but surely there are much more needy trouble spots in the N-340, where it passes through the municipality.

Youngsters Injured In Collision

Three of the four people who were injured in a multiple collision on the N-340 on Sunday 21st March have been released from hospital after suffering only minor injuries, a fourth however is now in the Intensive Care Unit of the University hospital in Malaga, after being transferred there by helicopter.

Road Sign Madness

There was an interesting article in Ideal, pointing out the failures of the signage at the main entrance and exit to the village. The problem being that there is no sign for the A-7.
