Mayors Face Salary Cuts

Thanks to a pending agreement between the two major political parties in Spain, 14 mayors of provincial capital cities could see their salaries reduced. At present the said mayors receive over 67,055 euros a year in salary, which is the salary of a Spanish Secretary of State.

Political Squabble over Aquarium

On the 19th of December the Mayor of Almuñécar, Trinidad Herrera, declared that the lease terms for the aquarium had been a “chollo,” meaning a bargain-cum-cushy number. The implication was that the Benavides administration had favoured the leaseholder, Aliart Engineering S.L. to a suspicious degree.

Castell Chiringuito Fire

Castell de Ferro’s Chiringuito Bajamare was completely gutted by fire. According o the Mayor, Eloy Marín, said that there had been a previous attempt to torch the chiringuito on Playa Cambriles, but which the Motril Fire Service had managed to put out before it could do much damage.

Farewell to Sewage Plant Stink?

The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Tropical has begun work on the EDAR de Motril-Salobreña (sewage-treatment plant) which the Chairman claims will do away with the lingering ‘hum’ in six months.
