Ex-Mayor of Almuñécar, Juan Carlos Benavides, presented his first book at a book-signing event at Hotel Victoria Playa, Almuñécar: Tiempos de Reflexión.
The hall set aside for the event at the hotel was packed – the hotel puts the attendance at around 300 – proof that the charismatic ex-mayor still has plenty of followers. He was introduced by a representative of the Asociación Cultural Mediterránea (Luisa) and by the first Mayor of Almuñécar after the restoration of democracy in the late 70’s, Miguel Avila.
Juan Carlos admits to being addicted to facebook; in fact, the book is comprised of 60 articles that he has posted on his own facebook account; i.e., his musings. He says that he is not a writer and that he had never considered trying to be one, but had felt moved by the political situation in which the town, region and country now finds itself.
