The good intentions of the last Benavides administration appears to have resulted in 248,319 euros being spent for nothing. The outlay was to provide access to Almuñécar’s beaches for people with mobility problems; i.e. in wheelchairs. Everything was installed, but the snag is that reportedly nothing is in line with standing regulations, which means, it all has to be changed.

Baby Falls from Town Hall 1st Floor

A 17-month child plunged 4.5 metres from the 1st-floor of the Motril Town Hall on Monday the 19th. The baby girl, who survived the fall, is in the Intensive Care Unit.
School Violence

Teachers and parents turned out in the Plaza de la Constitución (town hall) to express their indignation following an attack on a school teacher at the new P-4 school (IES Puerta del Mar) by one of her girl pupils.
Paellazo

The title is a wonderful Spanish term, probably just coined by a word wizard, to describe what happened in the Avenida de Salobreña during the early hours of yesterday, when a car landed in one of the large, plate-like fountains. The fountain is round and large, like a paella dish, so it wasn’t long before it acquired the local nickname of ‘la paellera.’

The Granada, provincial branch of the Ecologistas en Acción have sent in a report (denuncia) to the Environment and Public Works Department of the Junta de Andalucía over what they qualify as a ‘tremendous amount of illegal earth shifting’ that is could well adversely effect the barranco de la Vizcarra, up above Calahonda (Karst area). It was precisely storm water from this barranco (gully) that caused the flooding in the village several months ago.

Seven Arrested in Drug Bust

The Policia Nacional arrested seven people, the majority of whom are from Almuñécar, in an anti-drugs police operation carried out in this coastal town. Some of those arrested belong to the same family.
