La Herradura and Velilla are to get new glass-recycling bins, thanks to an agreement struck between the Town Hall and a glass-recycling company, Ecovidrio. The Councillor for the Environment, Luis Aragón, said that collection points for paper and plastic will be next.

With these new containers, the total for the whole municipality (La Herradura and outlying barrios) is 65 containers, most of which are arguably cunningly hidden on the outskirts, but never mind.

In the case of La Herradura, the twelve new containers for glass recycling are dotted along the paseo road (Segovia) and the Avenida de Prieto Moreno.

Within a few days, promises the councillor, a deal will be signed with BioGranada, whose job it will be to provide collection bins for paper and containers/packaging.

The lease for the rubbish-recycling contract had recently expired, which dated back to 2005 and cost the town 800 euros a month; the new company will do it ‘with no expense to the municipal coffers,’ explained the councillor.

Finally, Councillor Aragón pointed out that the more rubbish-separation and recycling that is carried out in the municipality; the less it costs, because the Town Hall doesn’t have to pay for it all to be transported to the rubbish-treatment plant in Vélez.

Will this ‘saving’ mean that homeowners might expect to pay less tax for this service?
