
After a two year pause owing to Covid and strained relations with Morocco, the ferry operation carrying Moroccans returning home for summer has recommenced.
(DCU 10) The forced change over of ferry companies operating from Motril has already had, what many consider, foreseeable negative effects.
Motril Port took part in the latest Fruit Logística fair in Berlín in support of the companies operating out of the port.
Although the future of the ferry line between Motril and Melilla still hangs in the balance, a new fast-ferry service started just last week.
Whilst Motril fights tooth and nail to retain the ferry service with North Africa, on the other side of the Mediterranean they don’t agree with what Motril has done.
Even though the Motril-Melilla ferry service wasn’t inaugurated until the 12th of last month, almost one month later 8,463 passengers have crossed, together with 2,273 vehicles, all to the detriment of Malaga port which normally handles this traffic.
From the beginning of this month, Motril will have a direct ferry link to North Africa; travelling to the Spanish city enclave, Melilla.
