From the beginning of this month, Motril will have a direct ferry link to North Africa; travelling to the Spanish city enclave, Melilla.
The shipping line is Canaries-based Armas and the ferry is Vulcán de Timanfaya. the ship can carry 1,000 passengers, with sleeping accommodation in 56 cabins with 206 beds and has room for 300 vehicles.
The sea trip will last four hours and 15 minutes and will run daily, leaving Melilla at 8am, arriving at Motril just after midday. Then begins the return voyage at 4pm arriving at 8.15pm.
The small snag, therefore is that while people from Melilla can make a day trip, passengers going to the other way will have to stay the night.
(News: Motril, Costa Tropical, Granada, Andalucia)

Apparently the service still hasn’t been put into service, but will be in the coming couple of days, hence the presence of the Ferry at Motril Port, pending kick off.
Cheers
Mart, the Ed.
The Armas Ferry is sighted on it’s way into Motril Port as I write this Wednesday evening 6th July at 5 minutes before 8 p.m.
