Motril Port Attracts New Company?

MOT new ferry line OnLMotril Port is on a roll because it appears to have attracted another shipping company, following in the wake of ARMAS and FRS, thanks to its strategic location in relation to North Africa.

The new company, the Baleària, as its names suggests, is a Balearic Island company and leader in passenger & vehicle ferry traffic for those islands, as well as one of the bigger operators in the Gibraltar Straits.

At the moment, however, the company is keeping its cards close to its chest and although it has maintained several meetings with the Motril Port Authorities, it has not confirmed that it will definitely be making such a move. However, they have already installed three office modules within the port.

The Port Authorities themselves are also keeping Mum, but the office modules are at least indicative that something is happening.

One thing is for sure, and that is that the port traffic is growing; if you compare the 2011 figures when 66,888 ferry passengers used the port to the present figures, which are around half a million, that’s a big jump.
