Vegetation in the Riverbeds

The Almuñécar Town Hall has got around to cleaning the hitherto dry riverbeds, as they are overgrown with vegetation that would not only create an obstacle for the water, but would also end up floating just off the beaches should a rush of water appear – which is eminent.

New La Herradura Classroom

The school parents association (AMPA) and the Head of the junior school, Las Gaviotas, begun a new school year with an extra multi-purpose classroom, which has been built by the Town Hall down the side of the school playground.

La Herradura Makes The National Lottery

The First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya, has announced that the National Lottery Organisation has agreed to use an image of La Herradura Bay on its lottery ticket on the 18th of October, to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the shipwreck of the Spanish Fleet in the village’s bay.

Politicians Accussing Each Other of Being Naughty

The Mayor of Almuñécar’s party, the PP, have denounced the ‘squandering’ allegedly carried out by the previous mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides. According to the PP, the ex-Mayor rewarded his ‘faithful followers’ with trips to some of the towns that are twinned with Almuñécar.

Photo Exhibit at Casa de la Cultura

You have from now until the 30th of September to visit the photo exhibition on show at Almuñécar’s Casa de la Cultura! The photos were taken by local photographer, Javier Celorrio, and the exhibition is entitled: La Almuñécar de Celorrio.

The I Subida por la Cabra was held on Saturday the 8th, staring in Almuñécar and finishing at Los Prados at the very top of the Otivar mountain road.

An evening of Barbershop singing (unaccompanied vocal harmony) together with Spanish, English and Mongolian folk singers and a Scottish piper, in aid of Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer.
