Refusing to be a Burden

A small hamlet near Pinos Puente, Granada, was the scene of tragic deaths: a 77-year-old man and his 76-year-old, disabled wife made a suicide pact, so as not to become a burden on their children.

Insufficient Fine Income

We know; it’s enough to make you weep, but the City Hall of Granada has only received about a fifth of what it hoped to grab through fines. As this was a projected “income” in the 2012 budget, they are having trouble with the books.

3,000-Signature Petition

Several thousand people in the city of Granada have signed a petition to have an alleged child molester imprisoned until the day of his trial. At present, after having spent two weeks in custody in August, he at liberty pending trial.

Ambulance Service Cuts

Anybody who has been unfortunate enough to require a course of radiotherapy at Granada’s main hospital will know what an ordeal the ambulance route is, but at the same time, they are grateful for the service.

Forced to Fine?

The municipal police in Granada have complained that they are being coerced by the City Hall to issue fines. This follows two weeks of working to rule; i.e., strictly following regulations, which means that fewer fines are being issued because they are issuing warnings, rather than fines.

Medical Attrition in the Province

Not only leading up to the General elections did Mariano Rajoy promise that he wouldn’t make any cuts to Education or Health, but he reiterated the pledge upon reaching power. However, he was soon to go back on his battered word.

Granada Jazz Festival

33rd Annual Festival Internacional de Jazz de Granada, the most important in Andalucía and one of the oldest in Europe will be held at the Teatro Municipal Isabel la Católica in Granada, from the 8th to the 18th of November.
