Marina Projects and the POT

Coastal News: The Junta de Andalucia has announced that it will try to develop the resources of the municipalities on the Costa Tropical through its POT (Plan de Ordenacion del Territorio), which is the area equivalent to a municipalities PGOU (General Urban Development Plan).

La Herradura Paseo Latest

The councillor for La Herradura, Juan J. Ruiz Joya called a press meeting this morning at the Centro Rio Jate to speak about the controversial paseo project and the allegedly loss of funding.

New School for Velez Benaudalla

The Regional Education Board is spending 2.6m euros on a new school for Velez Benaudalla (just above Motril) to replace the old Colegio Madrigal & Padial. This new building will provide a room for a further 225 pupils.

Blue Zone Changes in Almunecar

We managed to collar Francisco Prados, who is the leader of the local PSOE and opposition leader, concerning the Blue Zones in Almunecar. He confirmed that in the first Plenary meeting of the Town Council it was agreed to reduce the Blue Zone timetables, although not as much as his party had proposed.

New Roundabout Demand

With the ever-growing numbers of visitors to the very popular Cantarrijan beach, just west of La Herradura, calls for a roundabout to be built on the N-340 are also growing. In fact, several plenary meetings of the municipal council have culminated in a request to the Demarcacion de Carretera (road authorities) for such a junction, as well as one at the entrance to the Urbanizacion de Las Palomas, just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

Lack of Berths

If you ever had any doubt concerning Costa Tropical’s lack of berths in its marinas (there are only two) then you need only compare our 407 berths to those available in Cadiz, 2,796 and Malaga 8,742. And of course, it when the summer comes around that the shortage is felt the most.
