La Herradura News, Views and Opinions

New Roundabout Demand

With the ever-growing numbers of visitors to the very popular Cantarrijan beach, just west of La Herradura, calls for a roundabout to be built on the N-340 are also growing. In fact, several plenary meetings of the municipal council have culminated in a request to the Demarcacion de Carretera (road authorities) for such a junction, as well as one at the entrance to the Urbanizacion de Las Palomas, just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

Lack of Berths

If you ever had any doubt concerning Costa Tropical’s lack of berths in its marinas (there are only two) then you need only compare our 407 berths to those available in Cadiz, 2,796 and Malaga 8,742. And of course, it when the summer comes around that the shortage is felt the most.

Herradura’s First Annual Gastronomic Fair

The village celebrated its first Feria Gastronmica – Almunecar style – on 3rd, 4th and 5th of last month.

Triffids Invade Footpaths!

People in the old part of the village were pretty browned off (annoyed) over the amount of weed growing along footpaths and steps. Some of he weeds growing on the steps on La Cuesta de Fray Leopoldo were big enough to trip somebody up as they descended these steep steps.

Good Home for Strays?

Bongo and Bruno are two young (1.5 years old) castrated males, found abandoned on the beach. Both are very healthy animals (all vaccines are up to date and have they have microchips).

Beach Road Improvements

You will have noticed that where the Las Tejas riverbed crosses the beach road the latest work has left it in a damned civilized manner – no more crocodiles and mantraps… The Espinar might be full of weeds and palm-tree cuttings, which deserves criticism, but this modification at the river mouth deserves praise.

New Tapa Bar in the Village

Chef, Miguel Castilla, proprietor of Almuñécar’s Restaurante Reina Sofía, has opened a tapas bar in front of Hotel Almijarra in Edificio Bahía Jardín, with the name Sacacorchos (Corkscrew) .
