Passersby may have been surprised by all the commotion around Hotel Almijarra on the 25th, with the police and emergency services pouring in and out of the building, but there was no cause for concern as it was all emergency exercise, or a simulacro, as they say in Spanish.

Woman Receives Compensation

A woman had just parked her car on Calle Pintor Soriano Quirós (Granada), opened the door and climbed out when instead of placing her foot on a firm pavement, she literally fell into an open manhole. The metal cover was missing and had been for around a month, because somebody had stolen it.

Defiant Mother

The Municipal Police of Málaga arrested J.A.l.R. who had moments before wrestled a toddler from its mother’s arms. The 35-year-old man was more interested in his victim’s small backpack, but literally holding the baby for ransom until she handed the the prize over seemed a good plan.

Salobreña Debt

Well, after the revelations that half the annual budget goes on salaries, and that contrary to election campaign promises the Mayor and the First Councillor haven’t been squeamish about their own personal salaries, it now comes to pass that hitherto uncalculated bills have taken the public debt up to nearly 12m euros.

Loaded and Bunged

Arrested for Impersonating a Councillor

In the town of Escúzar (Granada), a political skirmish took place on the Internet on a forum where a contributor called Nopolítico was laying into the Mayor prior to the municipal elections, and then against the same man after losing office and now as a PP councillor, Manuel Alférez Bonilla.

Not Just A Roundabout…

Motril has finished sprucing up its biggest traffic roundabout, which is the one under the N-340, where the port road runs. The Mayor (still) Carlos Rojas never lost the opportunity to have one more photograph of himself taken, this time standing with a suitably triumphant grin over the huge town-shield design, flower bed.
