The Municipal Police in Málaga arrested J.A.l.R. who had moments before wrestled a toddler from its mother’s arms. The 35-year-old man was more interested in his victim’s small backpack, but literally holding the baby for ransom until she handed the the prize over seemed a good plan.

The incident happened one Wednesday morning as the 34-year-old mother was taking the child to playschool. The man approached her and allegedly tried snatch the backpack from her, but she resisted, which was when he switched objective.

But if a woman is going to fight off a mugger to save her possessions, she certainly wasn’t going to let him grab her child, so she again came to blows with him. Defeated, the man stomped off.

She telephoned the police from the playschool and about two hours later a police patrol came across the man, accompanied by a woman, getting into a car, even though they were quite evidently drunk. The police proceeded to arrest the man, but ended up arresting the woman too, as she had begun to kick and hit the police car.
