The Guardia Civil in Almería identified, located, and are now investigating the driver of an articulated lorry who reversed up for nearly half a kilometre on the A -7 to reach a turn off behind him.
This highly dangerous manoeuvre, especially when you’re a ruddy great lorry, was captured on one of the autovía CCTV cameras.
Why did he do this? Because he saw a traffic jam in front of him and thought… “I know!” The articulated lorry occupied the hard shoulder and part of the right-hand lane, causing traffic to change lanes with vehicles racing up behind them on the fast or over-taking lane.
The siutation became even worse when he reached the off-ramp because there the hard shoulder ended. He stopped where he had just enough room to swing the cab onto the off-ramp and move into it. The bus that had already entered the de-acceleration lane (off-ramp), had to brake hard in order not to run into the back of the trailer.
The driver could face between two and five years in prison for dangerous driving, a sizeable fine and losing his driving licence (HGV right down to a moped) for six years.
