Granada Jihadist Faces Imprisonment

A man in Huétor Tájar (Loja) faces five years imprisonment for urging others to carry out terrorist acts.

One of his messages in 2023 on the Telegram social-media platform read: “It is permitted to kill infidels, we are at war. They bomb civilian areas killing innocents, so they give us the right to do the same.”

This was one of the bellicose messages that a jihadist living in shared on Telegram in the summer of 2023. This illegal activity has now resulted in a five-year prison sentence.

An online undercover officer whose task it was to monitor the internet, contacted the three men directly through their Telegram channel, which they had created and managed with over 4,000 subscribers. The jihadist had urged ‘those interested’ to contact him privately or voice chats that leave no traceable record.

When asked by others on the channel if killing infidels is permitted, he answered that it was, stating that a war against NATO and non-followers of Sharia law is the only option.

Officers from the Policía Nacional’s Special Operations Group (GEO) made the arrests in Huétor Tájar early one morning in October 2023.

Consequently, a National Law Court ruled that the man and two accomplices committed the crimes of self-indoctrination and glorification of terrorism. All three men confessed to the charges making the oral verdict final and unappealable.

The court confirmed that he had shared and liked jihadist publications and praised the terrorist organization Daesh (Islamic State).
